PHOTOGRAPHER
RICKY POWELL

A street photographer based in New York since the late 1980s.
He was just a playmate with the up-and-coming artists Beastie Boys.
When he heard that the Beastie Boys were touring with Run DMC, he quit his job and went with the Beastie Boys.
The photos he took during the tour created a sensation, and after that he continued his career by participating in various tours as a photographer. Ricky is known as the unofficial Def Jam photographer and the fourth Beastie Boys member.

He shot iconic scenes of the era such as RUN-DMC, Madonna, Eric B, Rakim, Laurence Fishburne, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Basquiat, Sofia Coppola and Vin Diesel.
Perhaps no other photographer has captured the 80s and 90s hip-hop scene in New York like he did.
His work has been published in the New York Times, New York Post, Daily News, Village Voice, Time, Newsweek, VIBE, Source, Rolling Stone and many others.
So far, he has published three photobooks that edited these works.
